Detail views from wall frescoes from a room in Livia's villa at Prima Porta- not far from Rome.
The room can now be seen in the museum at Palazzo Massimo in Rome. Photos from flickr user raggi di sole.

Wow!! I want to thank you for posting these BEAUTIFUL close-ups of the mural from the Villa of Livia. I'm an Art major, working toward my Bachelors in Graphic Design and studying Art History. I had to chose two pictures from our reading material and write a paper comparing them...one I chose was Landscape with Swallows (Minoan) and the other this one. The picture I had wasn't that clear...from a distance so I couldn't really make out movement, or form...just a bunch of trees and oranges and what appeared to be birds in the trees and in flight. LOL But your close-ups of the details in the mural are phenomenal! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope you don't mind but I used them in my paper (I had to cite where I found the pictures) as an example of movement, shape, hue, and form.
