Studio Visit: Jeff Page

I stopped by my good friend Jeff's studio at Redline yesterday and thought it would be fun to share a little behind-the-scenes of his studio. Jeff primarily works with collage and painting and his new works were a real treat to see:

This Friday (Tomorrow!)

This Friday - September 5th, is an action packed art-filled day. Here's the breakdown:

Paralleled III - Opening at RMCAD from 6-9 pm - featuring work by yours truly (one piece never before exhibited)

Justin Fields and Karl Heinz-Dukstein at Sliding Door Gallery from 6-10 pm

Jeff Page (who's made a new installation for this opening) and 18 other Redline artists - from 7-11 pm.

So it looks like if you see these shows in this order you should be fine - each one is running a little longer than the previous one (9 pm, 10 pm, 11 pm).

While involved in making my art, my music likings swing from the obscure to the sensational. I like upbeat pop (like Madonna) or punky dance stuff like LCD Soundsystem or the Rapture to keep my energy up so that I can plow through my projects and dance along the way. But I take my work pretty seriously too and like to think and think and (sometimes) over-think my way through the art making process- which is where the desire for the minimal, yet complicated, electronics of various groups like Monolake or Gas comes in.

My taste for visual Artists also swings from the obscure to the sensational (sort of). I love Designer-ish Art and basically obsess over the careers of Rex Ray and Johnathan Adler. But I also admire and aspire to the thoughtfulness of Wangechi Mutu and Matthew Ritchie's work.

Blurb dot Com

I've recently been informed of Blurb.com - a self-publishing site that allows users to make small run, quality books. Users download their program Booksmart and you can put together a book with little or no experience ever doing so perviously. I'm currently working on a book of aerial photography and one of my portfolio - more news on that coming later this fall/winter. Their website and program are both extremely easy to use, and most examples of photography or portfolios in their bookstore look very professional. I would recommend this process to anyone who may be considering making or writing a book, especially artists. Their book-making software has many layouts that are conducive to artists and/or photographers. Why not? Their pricing is very affordable. Go for it.
