Weekend photos

We had a nice time up in the Winter Park/Grand Lake area this weekend. On our travels we spotted bighorn sheep, elk, marmots, mule deer, five moose, a fox and a pelican. Not bad huh?

Here's the fox - running through ditches off of the side of the road outside of Grand Lake.
There were five moose in this small group inside of the Grand Lake side of Rocky Mountain National Park - they were across a field of snow, so most of the photos were taken through my binoculars (thus the vignette).
Hope everyone stopping by "minutiae" had a great weekend too.

Fox in the street

In Cherry Creek North, in Denver. Photo by Jeffrey Beall.

I see more foxes and coyotes in Denver then I ever did growing up in Indiana. They seem to have really adapted to urban life.

Wild Neighbors

At our lodging on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend we had several local residents over to visit: (in order of appearance)

This doe was with two others - but this was the better photo.

Urban foxes

We went for a walk at Cheesman Park in Denver a few days ago and we saw a city fox hanging out in the park attracting the attention of a lot of the dogs being walked around the park. We both thought someone had let a pet go because the fox looked like a dog on a glance - it was lying down in the grass and we couldn't see its tail. It was being very cautious of the golden retriever barking at it not twenty feet away. It got up after a minute or two and just trotted across the lawn towards the other side of the park, apparently in no hurry. It was my second urban fox spotting within a month. This isn't a photo of the fox we saw, but it's drpaulsen's photo of another Denver resident fox and it looks a lot like the one we witnessed.
