Artopia went well - I exhibited a dozen new or never-before-shown works for a little over three hours. It was a little crazy, but overall -a good motivation to get new works finished. Here's a few:

You got me

Thanks for the love, I'll return to posting here after my next show. For the next couple weeks I need to focus on painting. You can see my work at the upcoming Artopia on Saturday, February 18.

If all goes according to my very fuzzy plan, there should be half a dozen new small works at the show. These are pretty abstract, and quite a departure (or detour?) for my work. Looking forward to sharing them with you. Thanks for the support everyone.

The world we live in

Here's an excerpt from Alan Prendergast's article in this weeks Westword titled, "In Colorado, it's not about why the wildlife cross the road, but whether they'll survive the trip";

"Establishing safe passages for wildlife is a long-term investment in the state's future, insists Julia Kintsch, an ecologist who operates her own consulting company, ECO-resolutions, and has worked on the Vail Pass bridge project for years. 'There's this hangup that it's for wildlife, not for people,' she says. 'We need to recognize that wildlife are an important part of the world we live in, too. It doesn't always have a monetary value attached to it, but it has value to our economy. It's a large part of why people come here to recreate and to live.'"

Michael Paglia, the Westword arts writer said this of my current show at Rule; "The festivities are finished off by Stills, which comprises edgy and awkward representational paintings done by emerging Denver artist Nathan Abels. Though technically not photo-realist in style, these paintings make wonderful companions for the photos from the other two shows."

I'm not sure what he means by "awkward", but the show is still up for almost another month so you should go by Rule and decide for yourself.

"Twinkle, Twinkle" press

Susan Froyd of Westword writes, "So on the heels of Art Miami, Zeile presents Twinkle, Twinkle, a stunning group exhibition of works by seven of those exemplary emerging locals, including shining stars Nathan Abels, Mindy Bray, Travis Egedy, Martin Sammy Gardea, Noah Manos, Lela Shields and Leafe Zales. A performance of Egedy's $2.99 will add zip to tonight's opening reception, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m.; the show continues through January 19.
