Mention on Lost at E Minor

Lost at E Minor posted my work recently and wrote,
"Denver-based Nathan Abels‘ paintings deal with the matter-of-course destruction humans wreak on the environment. Abels, like many other artists and photographers of late, captures the new, self-reflexive sense of the sublime we now experience with the uncontrollable power we now have over our world."

Vanishing Point

I watched Vanishing Point last night from a Art of Memory recommendation and it was a really fun and beautifully filmed movie. It was a great film not only for the action but for how well it depicts the western landscape. It gave me the itch to hit the road and explore the West some more (doesn't this third image remind you of something I would paint?). Other movies I've seen recently that present the western landscape well are Gerry and of course No Country for Old Men.

Sorry for so many re-posts lately, but you have to see this post at The Art of Memory about the sea in art and film.

NathanAbels dot com has returned. I finally got all the codes, transfers, etc. figured out and my new site is done. The new site also has a blog but that blog will focus more exclusively on my art - news, openings, new works, press...This blog will continue to be about inspiration, artists, music, film, and whatever else is interesting me at the time. Check out the new site and once again - thanks for stopping by here.

Press: Hess&Hodi

The blog called Hess&Hodi states that it is " a virtual gallery dedicated to showcasing affordable (generally under $300) works of art. We curate our way through the affordable art sludge so you don't have to." They did a feature of some of my work from shopSCAD and wrote some very kind words. You can find the feature here. Thanks Hess&Hodi!

New Website!

In aproximately two weeks my NathanAbels.com website will no longer be with earthlink and will cease to exist in its current form. Nathanabels.com will still exist as a domain but it will now be hosted on a wordpress blog site. I combined the capabilities of wordpress and flickr to make a nice new site with lots of new information that will be much easier for me to update. I now have images from recent exhibitions - with press links, installation photos, and images from the pieces I had in each show. Take a look around and tell me what you think!

New Links

I have re-organized my links or blogroll on the right side of the page - it now includes more categories: Nathan Abels Links, Denver Links, Blogs, Friends and Colleagues, and More Art (misc art related sites that weren't blogs or friends). If you have any art-related sites or recommendations to send my way feel free to leave a comment.
