Weekend

We spent another weekend in the Leadville area and half our group conquered Mt. Elbert - Colorado's highest peak (the rest retired early). Here's a photo taken by Lorna of the crowd at the top.

It was a perfect day for a long hike and we also caught the last of the golden aspen leaves:

La Push Beached Tree

La Push First Beach tree Twilight Series, originally uploaded by bike4freedom2.

Via the Telegraph UK: "This huge piece of driftwood washed up on the beach at La Push, a small community in Clallam County, Washington. La Push, surrounded by the lush forest of the Olympic National Park, is located on the northwest coast of Washington's most westerly peninsula, at the mouth of the Quillayute River. The tree is a Sequoia Semper Virens, or Costal Redwood, only grown in Monterey, California. It would have travelled hundreds of miles before being washed up on the beach at La Push."

This decaying tree was cast from the original in fiberglass, then the copy was shipped to Japan where it was replicated through hand-carved Japanese cypress wood. Read more about it here.
