Exposure

Yesterday I went to the Denver Art Museum and took a second look at the newly displayed photography show called "Exposure". It's a really worthwhile show covering a wide variety of subjects, time periods, and processes. Greg Cradick from Denver's Working With Artists recently wrote a long review on his Eye on Photography blog - read it here. My personal favorite in the show is Petah Coyne's Untitled 735:

Mention on Lost at E Minor

Lost at E Minor posted my work recently and wrote,

Ghost Towns and Mining Ruins

One of our favorite things to do on road trips through the mountains is go to ghost towns. We've been steadily checking off towns from the Ghost Towns of Colorado book over the last few years. I put most of the better photos together in a flickr set:

We took a long road trip through a couple of ghost towns (St. Elmo, Ironton) and camped in Ridgeway, Colroado. We also spent some time in Ouray, and a night outside of Silverton on the banks of the beautiful Molas Lake. Take a look through the photos (34 of the better ones from the trip).

Found Trail Art

On our hike up to Buffalo Ridge on Memorial day we passed some natural art pieces on the trail - perhaps made by Sue and Spud:

Recent press

Michael Paglia from the Denver Westword reviewed the "Stark" show at Foothills Art Center, saying of my work;

"the exhibit begins with some remarkable, barely-there drawings by Nathan Abels. 'City Park Morning' is so faint, it takes a moment or two to come into focus; it's almost as if Abels has simply exhaled graphite. An apparition-like video of his exudes a similar faintness."

I was also featured on the art-blog My Love for You is a Stampede of Horses and some tumblr blogs: the locative case, sunday afternoon rain, and drawing architecture.

Currently on the Easel

This is a corner of my new studio- cleaned up for a recent studio visit. Although it is hard to see in the view above, the branch along the top of the image I'm painting reminded me of the one seen in this Steichen painting from 1905:

DIA + Anubis

This sculpture of Anubis, the jackal-headed Egyptian god associated with mummification and the afterlife was recently installed at Denver International Airport. Installing large Egyptian gods at our airport is sure to feed the DIA conspiracy theories. Add that to the list of the New World Order symbolism, underground chambers and aliens associated with the Denver airport.
