The work of Patti Oleon

I found Patti Oleon's work at Freese blog - run by Seattle-based artist Wes Freese. Wes has posted an insightful interview with Oleon and I'd recommend heading over there to read through it. Oleon talks about her concepts and process and expands upon the mood or tone she is conveying through these exceptionally rendered works. These are paintings I wish I had done:

Patti Oleon, Windows and Mirrors, 2008, Oil on panel, 43" x 30
Patti Oleon, Library I, 2008, Oil on panel, 30" x 47"
Patti Oleon, Blue Room, White Windows, 2008, Oil on panel, 40 1/2" x 30 1/4"

I love it when realism looks like abstraction and vice versa.

Paintings of Jim Gaylord

I think these paintings by Jim Gaylord are really fresh - well balanced combinations of realism and abstraction:

If You Leave
oil on canvas
48 x 84 in.
2007
Cruel Summer
oil on canvas
34 x 40 in.
2007
Should We Talk Above it Now?
oil on canvas
40 x 62 in.
2006

These works by Jim Gaylord remind me of the abstractions by Ingrid Calame:

INGRID CALAME
From #231 Drawing (Tracings up to the L.A. River placed in the Clark Telescope Dome, Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, AZ) , 2006
Enamel paint on aluminum
24 X 48 inches

They also have aspects that remind me of pop artist James Rosenquist:

"The Swimmer in the Econo-mist (Painting 3)," by James Rosenquist, oil on shaped canvas, 13 feet 2 inches by 20 feet 3/16 inches, 1997-8

Chris Revelle Paintings

Chris Revelle, One fifth ounce, Oil on panel, 12" x12"
Chris Revelle, Three Eights Ounce, Oil on panel, 12" x12"
Chris Revelle, One Half Ounce, Oil on panel, 12" x12"

As I posted the Kenny Komar painting of a house called "Home Away from Home", I was reminded of the paintings of Chris Revelle, a fellow SCAD graduate. I believe that synchronicity
should be the word of the week.
