While we were in Santa Fe we were lucky to see the Mind the Gap exhibition at Eight Modern before it closed. I really enjoyed the work of Katherine Lee:

Patrick O'hare

It's almost as if Patrick O'hare went into the future and shot all the photos for what I was (am?) going to paint in 2009. These photos are fantastic. I looked at every image on his site, I am really blown away by how wet, abstract, dirty and painterly these images are. They also remind me a lot of the midwest. I have to say that these are easily my favorite find in the new year so far - found via Notcot, via 1010 woodland, via unique lapin.







Oh - and the "Everybody Loves A Trainwreck" exhibition open tonight - I have a couple of photos up in the show.

A creative partnership between Art Students League of Denver and Stories on Stage

Adultery makes for some of life’s most intense and interesting train wrecks. It is a high-risk source of excitement and adventure as well as long-term damage to individuals, families, and political careers. Stories about adultery make juicy listening, but if it happens to you, it’s devastating. Join us as we explore the landscape of adulterous relationships through a combination of the visual, literary and performing arts.

Stories on Stage invited Colorado writers to submit original stories on the subject of infidelity, particularly those that have shaped the national political scene. The Art Students League of Denver has invited visual artists to share their views on this topic through original works of art. Join us for both the art exhibition at the Art Students League and the performance in which the winning story will be read by Denver actors with images of the works of art integrated into the performance.

Rape of Europa

I watched the Rape of Europa last night - a documentary about the theft and recovery of art during WWII by the Nazi regime. It was a fascinating film - highly recommended. I was especially interested in all the work that went into protecting works of art during the war - from packing and shipping works out of the Louvre, to building brick tombs to protect Michelangelo sculptures in Florence from possible bombings:

Soun Hong at Site Santa Fe

I enjoyed the installation of Soun Hong's paintings at Site Santa Fe this week. They were placed high, low, and in clusters on the walls - leading you around the unusually shaped room. Here are a few photos of the installation and you can watch the Vernissage video (Hong's work comes in at about the 4:00 mark) for a taste of the entire group exhibition.
